De La Paz Middle School

Micah Charping

De La Paz Principal - Micah Charping

Mr. Charping previously served the district as assistant principal before being named principal of De La Paz Middle School.  Mr. Charping brings 16 years of experience in education to this position.  Before coming to RISD, he previously served as a teacher, coach, and program coordinator at the following respective districts: Ferris ISD, Brooks County ISD, Benavides ISD, and Premont ISD.

Mr. Charping's passion for seeing his students succeed is the bedrock of his approach to education.  With a huge smile on his face, he makes it a point to daily remind ALL his students how GREAT they are and that they are destined for greatness; and he demonstrates that message through handshakes, fist-bumps, morning announcements, lunchtime chats, and visits to the classrooms.  When asked, one of his students commented, "We can tell Mr. Charping cares about us because he takes time to get to know us.”

De La Paz Middle School has a rich tradition of academic excellence.  The middle school was named after the honored 1952 Riviera graduate, Ramiro De La Paz.  Mr. De La Paz, who retired in 1990 after 32 years in the district, served as a teacher, coach, and principal of the high school, and later as principal of the elementary and middle school; even serving as interim superintendent for the district.

Having such an honored academic history, De La Paz Middle School, with Mr. Charping leading the charge, looks to become a beacon of student success for many years to come.
