Wednesday, May 3rd, Riviera FFA traveled to Orange Grove to attend the Mesquite District FFA Banquet and compete in the Mesquite District FFA Speaking Contest Events. We are so proud of the 20 students who attended whether to compete, receive an award, run for office or participate as a voting delegate. Mary Smith ended her year of service as the 2022-2023 Mesquite District FFA President. Elizabeth Lugo will continue to serve the Mesquite District as the 2023-2024 Sentinel and Zane Henske will begin a year of service as the Mesquite District FFA Treasurer. Piper Colston and Isa Hubert received third in the talent show for their musical performance. A special Thank You to the Seniors on the team-you’ve left big shoes to fill! Finally, a BIG CONGRATULATIONS to Vincent Suarez, earning 2nd place in Pole Vault. He will continue his journey at State on May 12-13 in Austin. RISD is beyond proud of him!! As Riviera ISD has begun celebrating the best teachers in South Texas, we would like to recognize Mrs. Rhonda Yaklin for receiving the KIII 3 News 3Star Teacher nomination. With 38 years of experience, no wonder she’s a pro! Mrs. Rhonda Yaklin continues to go above and beyond for Riviera ISD! All students at Riviera ISD are loved and supported by Mrs. Yaklin. She teaches 5th grade, sponsors Middle School Student Council, is the UIL Coordinator for elementary, and continues to bring unique academic opportunities to Kaufer ECHS. In her spare time, she is a Chief Relationship Officer for Author John Brubaker, who recently published a book called “Roody Kangaroo Moves Forward”. Rhonda's passion is for students. She is dedicated to enhancing connectedness, resilience and fostering a positive school climate. Members from Kingsville Naval Base were presented with the expression of gratitude by our military-connected students. Afterwards, students were able to ask questions and visit with service-members. The Jr. High Riviera Baseball Team traveled to Freer over the weekend for their district tournament. Out of 9 teams, the Seahawks finished in 3rd place. The Seahawks started the day with a 3-2 victory over Benavides. Leading the way for the Seahawks was Ryan Ramos who spun an absolute gem on the mound for the Seahawks.
