Over the weekend, The Riviera Seahawk Baseball Team hosted a number of events for the alumni to enjoy. The festivities began on Friday night with the Homerun Derby kicking off the fun. Over twenty participants looked to hit as many long balls as they could. The final round of three came down to J.D Moya, Coach Amaya, and Ricky Falcon all battling to be the derby champion. Lead by a whopping 6 homeruns Ricky Falcon was crowned the 2023 Homerun Derby Champion! The action then went over to H.P Mendez Softball Field where we held our ‘Ol Timers Game which had the alumni play in a slow pitch softball game against the varsity baseball team. The action was nonstop all game. With the ‘Ol Timers down 18-6 in the last inning the bats came alive and rallied all the way back to erase the twelve-run deficit. With two outs in the bottom of the 7th J.D Moya stepped up to the plate and hit a walk-off solo bomb over the left field fence to give the ‘Ol Timers the win 19-18. Saturday afternoon was the 2023 Alumni Game. The Alumni came out swinging with Jacob Hubert hitting a ball to the ag farm for a solo homerun to give the alumni a 1-0 lead. The varsity team struggled to get things going against righty flame thrower Gabe Castillo. The alumni continued to add to their lead going up 3-0 in the bottom of the third. The varsity boys finally were able to put the ball in play and cut the lead to 3-2. Lead by solid pitching and timely hitting the varsity team was able to pull away from the alumni giving themselves a 7-3 cushion. The alumni did not back down though, in the top of the 6th the alumni struck a rally of their own and tied the game up 7-7. The varsity team quickly answered by putting up three runs in the bottom of the 6th to give themselves a 10-7 lead. Down to their final at bat Ervay Ramos closed the door on the alumni and recorded the last three outs of the game to give the varsity squad a 10-7 win. Also, on Saturday we held our Brisket Plate Sale, which was a great turnout. Big thanks to Tommy Longoria, Artie DeLaRosa, and Pete Guevara for making the delicious food. A big thank you goes out to all the players, parents, coaches, and families for helping the fundraiser run smoothly. All of these events wouldn’t have happened without the support of our baseball family.
