Future Engineers in the Making 🚀
Several Kaufer Early College High School students (grades 9–12) were invited by Texas A&M University–Kingsville to take part in an incredible learning experience featuring Mr. George Salazar, a NASA engineering leader and author of From the Barrio to NASA.
During the visit, our students—many of whom are aspiring engineers and innovators—participated in interactive exercises that challenged their problem-solving and teamwork skills. They enjoyed lunch with peers from across the region and engaged in an inspiring Q&A session that explored the importance of perseverance, education, and grit in achieving personal and professional goals.
Mr. Salazar’s story, from humble beginnings to leading NASA systems engineering teams for the Space Shuttle, Orion, and Artemis programs, showed our students what’s possible when passion meets purpose. His message resonated deeply with our group and reminded them that great achievements often begin with small steps and strong determination.
We’re incredibly proud of our students for representing Kaufer ECHS and Riviera ISD with maturity, curiosity, and class. Thank you to TAMUK and Mr. Salazar for hosting such a meaningful and motivating event for the next generation of dreamers and doers.

This week, our Spanish classes learned about Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) a beautiful Mexican tradition celebrated on November 1st & 2nd to honor and remember loved ones who have passed.
Students created marigold tissue flowers, brought photos of loved ones, and helped build our classroom ofrenda, a special altar that welcomes the spirits of those we hold close in our hearts. 💛🕊️
A huge thank you to Mr. De La Rosa's 4th-period class for working so hard to set up our ofrenda, and to Mrs. Mayberry for her support! 🙌💐

At the beginning of the year, the library shared information about our online reading platform — the Sora App. This amazing tool gives students access to read or listen to books online, anywhere, anytime!
🌟 Sora includes all of the 2025–2026 Lone Star and Bluebonnet books, along with thousands of other engaging titles students will love.
✨ New Feature: Parental Controls
Sora’s new Parental Controls feature gives families and guardians greater visibility and management over their child’s reading experience. You can now help guide your student’s reading choices, see what they’re exploring, and encourage their love of books — all from one easy-to-use app.
📚 This feature supports Riviera ISD’s commitment to keeping families connected and engaged in every child’s reading journey.
